SVT Skill Center Summer School 2021

SVT is offering 5 courses this summer to all students in grades 9-12 (grade level as of fall 2021).


These courses will run from 8:00-2:30, June 22-July 9 (no class on July 5th).


Students earn .5 CTE credit upon completion. All courses are completely free! 


·        Introduction to Fire Science

Interested in firefighting and other emergency service careers? The summer Fire Science program introduces students to structural firefighting and the emergency medical system.  Develop the required teamwork, leadership, mental and physical skills to be successful in the fire service.


·        Introduction to Engineering

This course will allow students to explore engineering concepts and practices through student-driven activities, team-building, problem-solving and friendly competition. Course will introduce students to mechanisms, electronics, machine control and programming. No experience is necessary! Concepts learned in this course will support a student in future physics, engineering and math courses.


·        Pre-Med / Students of Medicine

Created by Dr. Jimenez, the Students of Medicine pre-med course was developed to provide comprehensive resources to high school students who want to become physicians. The summer institute will provide guidance and support for students who dream of one day getting into medical school. During this highly focused summer institute students will review various human body systems, participate in hands-on medical labs, explore virtual emergency room cases, and create a medical school Curriculum Vita.


·        Introduction to Manufacturing

Interested in manufacturing? Learn about careers and local manufacturing companies. Learn to safely operate hand tools, machines and equipment used in the manufacturing industry.  


·        Introduction to Computer Science

Computer Science is a growing industry that has high demand job opportunities. This course introduces foundational concepts of computer programming using curriculum.  It empowers students to engage with computer science as a medium for creativity, communication, problem solving and fun.
